Granite Polish FAQs
How do you get granite to shine again?
Granite countertops lose their shine over time due to various factors such as improper cleaning and hard water deposits. To restore the shine to granite countertops professionally, it is recommended to use a high-quality granite polishing compound.
Professional products like our MB-20® Granite Polish can effectively rejuvenate the surface, providing a polished and lustrous finish.
Can you polish granite yourself?
It is doable but not recommended. For reliable and effective results it is advisable to use professional products specifically designed for this purpose. Utilizing a variable-speed polisher grinder with different grit polishing pads and applying a professional-grade granite polishing compound, such as MB-20®, can achieve superior results.
Will baking soda polish granite?
For professional-grade results, it is recommended to avoid relying on household remedies such as baking soda. Instead, opt for dedicated granite polishing compounds like MB-20® that are formulated specifically for polishing granite.
Using baking soda may not provide the desired level of effectiveness and longevity compared to professional products. Dedicated products also ensure a thorough and reliable restoration of shine without compromising the integrity of the granite surface.
Note:
- All powders are packed by weight and not by volume.

Preparation:
- Clean the surface, to be polished, from any debris, sand, and dirt.
- Protect surfaces that could be damaged by splatters with proper masking material.
- Prepare your surface for polishing by completing the honing process, to the highest clarity possible for best results.
Directions for Countertops:
- Target an area of approximately 2 – 3 sq. ft.
- Using a spray bottle, add a spritz of water.
- Use a hog’s hair pad with a right-angle grinder/polisher (variable speed is a MUST).
- Set the speed to low. Place pad on top of paste.
- Start spreading the paste over the targeted area, keeping a very low RPM, until it’s almost dry.
- Begin to increase the speed and decrease the pressure – at this point, there should be no splatters.
- Pull the trigger for max speed, and run the product dry while moving the machine swiftly over the target area. The use of pressure will vary depending on the stone.
- Check the results and repeat if needed.
- If any swirls or marks appear it is because too much product was used. Remove the marks using a white pad with a mist of water, or if they become stubborn, use tin oxide or any polishing compound.
- Adjust the amount of product you are using and continue.
