Step 1: Evaluate the Damage
Inspect the chipped, scratched, or damaged area to determine the extent of the repair. This system is best suited for minor chips, edge damage, scratches, and cosmetic imperfections on porcelain, ceramic, and sintered surfaces.
Step 2: Clean the Repair Area
Thoroughly clean the damaged area using the included Cleaner I or an appropriate surface cleaner. Remove dust, dirt, oils, and loose debris to ensure proper adhesion of the repair material.
Step 3: Prepare the Filler Material
Select the appropriate Akemi® filler included in the kit and prepare it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Mix only the amount needed for the repair to maintain optimal working time.
Step 4: Fill the Chip or Damaged Area
Carefully apply the filler into the damaged area using the provided tools. Slightly overfill the repair to compensate for leveling during the finishing process. Ensure all voids and chipped sections are completely filled.
Step 5: Allow the Repair to Cure
Let the filler fully cure according to the recommended curing time. Avoid disturbing the repair during this stage to ensure maximum strength and adhesion.
Step 6: Level the Surface
Once cured, carefully trim or level the repaired area using the included planer or finishing tools. The goal is to create a smooth transition between the repair and the surrounding surface.
Step 7: Match the Surface Color
Using the CERAMIC Color Card Set, select and blend colors to match the surrounding material. Apply color in thin layers as needed to recreate the appearance of the original surface.
Step 8: Recreate Veining and Patterns
For surfaces with movement, veining, or decorative details, use the included brush and color-matching materials to replicate the natural pattern of the porcelain or sintered slab. Layering colors can help create a more realistic repair.
Step 9: Inspect and Refine the Repair
Review the repair from multiple angles and lighting conditions. Make any final color adjustments needed to improve blending and minimize visibility.
Step 10: Return the Surface to Service
Once the repair is fully cured and color matched, the surface is ready for normal use. Properly completed repairs can provide a durable, professional-looking finish that blends naturally with the surrounding material.
Pro Tip: When repairing modern porcelain and sintered slabs, spend extra time on color matching and veining replication. In most cases, the success of the repair is determined more by the camouflage work than by the filler itself. Professional technicians often build color in multiple layers to achieve the most natural-looking result.
